According to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, 68% of all playground injuries are caused by falls to the ground. Proper installation of Safety Down Under® playground safety surfacing is of the utmost importance. Installed properly Safety Down Under can reduce the risk of serious injury due to falls. Some factors that contribute to poor playground safety surfacing installation including insufficient thickness of safety surfacing, missing or inadequate use zones, not meeting ASTM standards and failure to follow playground equipment manufacturer’s instructions.

Safety Down Under recommends that before installation of playground safety surfacing, the customer consult with the manufacturer of their playground equipment for the proper dimensions of use zones and the proper depth required for playground safety surfacing. Use zones are the room needed around swings, slides and other equipment where a child might fall. Safety Down Under meets ASTM F-1292-99 for a 12’ fall. In tests, 12” of Safety Down Under was installed over a layer of geotextile fabric and 2” drain rock. The 12” layer was wetted and compacted using a vibrating plate compactor to a final depth of 9”.**

Safety Down Under can recommend preferred installers who will properly install your playground safety surfacing, ensuring the maximum benefits of Safety Down Under® playground safety surfacing.
